Mark Chen

Mark Chen has been chosen to represent Heery International as its director of design. There, Chen will be responsible for managing and revitalizing the firm’s design practice on a unified national basis. Coming to Heery from his own firm, Mark Chen Architect, a design and planning consulting firm, based in New York City, Chen has over 30 years of experience as a designer and planner of commercial, education and health care buildings throughout the U.S. He has also provided urban design and planning services for large-scale projects in the U.S. and abroad.

Formerly the director of design at Hillier (now RMJM), Chen was responsible for design leadership for the New York office and served as the firm’s lead designer of Glaxo SmithKline’s world headquarters in London. Previously, he was a principal and project designer at Perkins+Will. He assisted with the planning and design of Canary Wharf in London and University Park at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as urban design and planning projects in Beirut and Saudi Arabia.

With a master of architecture degree from Harvard University and a bachelor of architecture from Cornell University, Chen is a registered architect in several states and a LEED accredited professional. He has been an adjunct associate professor of architecture at the New York Institute of Technology and at Syracuse University since 2001.
