Christine Close, RN, BSN, has been appointed to clinical nurse manager of the urgent care center at Oswego Health’s soon-to-be-opened Central Square Medical Center in Oswego, N.Y. With over 14 years of experience in the health care field, Close was initially hired as a staff nurse to work on one of Oswego Hospital’s medical/surgical floors.


Health care industry veteran, Brenda Traweek has been named chief operating officer for the Brookwood Medical Center. Having previously served as vice president of operations and assistant vice president of surgical services, Traweek has worked with Brookwood since 2003. Most recently, she held the position of vice president of the hospital’s patient care services, where she was responsible for the operational and financial management of the nursing division.
Dr. Louis Katz will be the next executive vice president for America’s Blood Centers. An advocate for the blood banking community, he brings 30 years of experience and infectious disease expertise to his new position, where he will assume the role of chief medical officer.
With more than 28 years of experience in hospital, health plan, and health care consulting, James B. Bross will assume the roles of president and chief executive officer, serving Mission Health, in affiliation with Angel Medical Center. Coming from Applied Revenue Analytics in Temple, Texas, he previously served as senior director of client services and led business development strategies specializing in improving hospitals with financial analytics.
Mark Chen has been chosen to represent Heery International as its director of design. Chen will be responsible for managing and revitalizing the firm’s design practice on a unified national basis. Coming to Heery from his own firm, Mark Chen Architect, a design and planning consulting firm, based in New York City, Chen has over 30 years of experience as a designer and planner of commercial, education and health care buildings throughout the U.S.

South Coast Improvement Company, a provider of construction and renovation services to senior living and health care facilities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, named Sean J. Whalen vice president of business development. In his new role, his responsibilities will include building relationships and strategic alliances, overseeing the sales team and expanding the firm’s sales markets.
Craig Greene recently joined Lydig as the firm’s director of special projects. Greene has done many projects with Virginia Mason Medical Center, the Seattle Caner Care Alliance, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, bringing much health care experience to the company. An advisory board member for Lean Construction Institute’s Cascadia Chapter, Greene also worked at Harborview Medical Center and the Benaroya Research Institute.
Appointed to vice president and Cincinnati region leader, Nick Apanius will lead Messer Construction’s health care division, managing and providing guidance to a multi-functional team to drive research and development for the company’s construction services. He is a University of Cincinnati graduate and began his career with Messer in 1999. Apanius served as a senior project manager before being promoted to project executive and then health care executive.
Michelle Mahfouz has been appointed as executive vice president and COO for Texas Medical Center. Most recently, Mahfouz worked with Sterling Bank, where she holds 18 years of experience in administration, operations, productivity, human resources and process improvement. Previously, she served as senior vice president for Compass Bank’s business banking division in Houston, Texas. Additionally, Mahfouz held other managerial positions at Bank of America.
