Citizens Memorial Hospital will host a Feb. 28 grand opening for its new hospital tower in Bolivar, Missouri, offering open-house hours, refreshments and guided tours ahead of a planned April activation of new patient care areas.

The tower is part of a broader $100 million expansion and renovation program that includes a three-story, 117,000-square-foot addition and roughly 25,000 square feet of remodel work. The expansion and renovation began with a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2023.

“It’s not often that a community the size of Bolivar has the opportunity to celebrate the opening of a new hospital, and we’re excited to share this milestone,” said Michael Calhoun, CEO and executive director of CMH and Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation, according to an article from Citizens Memorial Hospital

Calhoun also positioned the event as a preview of newly built clinical environments, noting the public will be able to see patient rooms and care spaces before move-in.

In a separate statement tied to the opening, Calhoun emphasized the project’s long-term capacity and modernization goals for the organization’s current service footprint.

“We’ve grown a lot over the years at CMH, and this new hospital expansion reflects the services we provide to our community today,” Calhoun said, in an article from Citizens Memorial Hospital

Project information posted by CMH describes a $100 million expansion and renovation effort led by construction manager JE Dunn and architect HMN Architects. Construction began in May 2024, and the health system has posted regular updates on progress as work continues toward a 2026 opening.

CMH said patient care areas moving to the new tower include an expanded emergency department and new medical/surgical, intensive care and birthing units with private rooms. Additional features include a new hospital main entrance, kitchen, cafeteria and dining area, coffee shop and an expanded gift shop. The new patient areas are scheduled to open in April, while renovations in the existing hospital are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, including a surgical department expansion, renovations and two new cardiac cath lab procedure rooms.
