HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) of Minneapolis announced that its board of directors unanimously named Tim Carl, FAIA, as the firm’s new CEO. Carl’s appointment is the culmination of a 16-month long leadership transition. He succeeds Dan Avchen, FAIA, who served as HGA’s CEO since 1996. Carl has been with HGA for 17 years and most recently held the title of design principal, working with teams in each HGA office.

Children’s Hospital Named for Nicklaus Family

MIAMI — Miami Children’s Health System has teamed with the Nicklaus Children’s Health Foundation to build the hospital’s Advanced Pediatric Care Pavilion, and will change the name of the main hospital to the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Jack Nicklaus, professional golfer and philanthropist, together with his wife Barbara Nicklaus, launched the Nicklaus Children’s Health Foundation in 2004, and have just announced its $60 million pledge to the Miami Children’s Health System.

New Children’s Hospital Opens in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Ala. — Construction on Memphis’ new multimillion-dollar Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital wrapped up in late January. The centerpiece of the new facility, a $14.1 million, 10-room, 17,000-square-foot emergency department, began accepting patients on Jan. 28. The hospital expects to see upwards of 7,300 patients in its first year.

Hospitals Honored for Charitable Services

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Six hospital programs were named Programs of Promise by Jackson Healthcare of Alpharetta, which sponsors awards honoring hospitals that aim to improve the health of local communities.

Each hospital program was awarded $2,500 through the Hospital Charitable Services Awards, which is sponsored by Jackson Healthcare. This year’s six Programs of Promise were selected from a pool of 208 nominees. Each nominee had to demonstrate excellence in five criteria areas: community impact, innovation, collaboration, transferability and best practice.
