Tom Shaver
The Opus Group appointed Tom Shaver as president, Opus Healthcare, a division of Opus Development Company, L.L.C., and an expansion of services into the health care sector. In his new role at Opus, Shaver will lead Opus’ health care work, developing the strategic direction of the division with the goal of helping health care systems find customized real estate solutions that benefit their organizations, staff and patients.


Legacy ER & Urgent Care (LER) of Frisco, Texas, announced that Keith Miller has been named president of the company, which provides both emergency and urgent care services. Miller will provide day-to-day leadership for LER and spearhead its expansion across Texas. Prior to joining LER, Miller championed start-ups and engineered organizational turnarounds.
Gresham, Smith and Partners of Nashville, Tenn., announced Mark Henderson has been named executive vice president (EVP) of the firm’s health care market. As EVP, Henderson provides guidance and direction for the firm-wide practice while enhancing market knowledge, fostering client relationships and furthering the market’s growth strategies.
SmithGroupJJR, based in Detroit, named Christopher Arnold, AIA, LEED green associate, to lead the firm’s health care studio in Los Angeles. Arnold joins the Los Angeles office from the firm’s Washington, D.C., location, where he served as senior project manager and project architect for many of the firm’s award-winning health projects. Arnold will focus on continuing SmithGroupJJR’s Los Angeles office growth throughout Southern California.
Anthony J. Haas FAIA, FACHA, senior principal at WHR Architects, began his tenure as the 2015 president of the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA). The college provides board certification for architects who practice as health care specialists. Its members include health care architects throughout the United States and Canada with specialized skills and proven expertise.
Margaret McDonald, LEED AP, has joined HOK as director of interiors in St. Louis. McDonald began her career at HOK in 1997. She rejoins the firm from Arcturis, where she served as principal and design director for the past 15 years. McDonald succeeds Michael Nolan, senior vice president, who has relocated from St. Louis to assume a new role as director of interiors in HOK’s Chicago office while continuing to help guide the firm-wide interiors practice.
Perkins+Will’s New York office recently announced the elevation of Robert Goodwin into the College of Fellows, the AIA’s highest honor for excellence. Goodwin has designed a number of Perkins+Will’s award-winning projects, including the new Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University Medical Center, among others. Goodwin, the architectural design director for Perkins+Will’s New York office, has practiced architecture for more than 20 years.
CannonDesign of Grand Island, N.Y., announced Steven Stafford has joined the firm as vice president and advisory services consultant. With a career spanning more than 30 years in the health care industry, Stafford brings experience using data analytics and visualization to help community and academic health systems improve operational efficiency, quality and care delivery.
Dr. Jeff Sperring has been appointed as the next CEO at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Sperring currently serves as president and CEO of Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis. Starting in early May, he’ll replace Dr. Thomas Hansen, who will retire as CEO after 10 years of service but continue to serve as an investigator in the Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
Steven Steinberg, AIA, has joined HGA as an associate vice president and health care principal directing new business development and client relations. He most recently worked with Ratcliff Architects in Emeryville, Calif., as a principal and co-leader of the health care practice. Steinberg has a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
