Mercy Health Muskegon Breaks Ground on $271 Million Project

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Mercy Health Muskegon broke ground on a new $271 million, nine-story medical center on Sept. 20. The project will finally bring Hackley Health System and Mercy Health Partners onto one campus after the two companies merged in 2008.

“This project has been about creating the right space, designed around the way health care should be delivered today and into the future, with the flexibility to easily adapt as needs evolve and grow,” said Mercy Health Muskegon Board Chairperson Scott Musselman in a statement. “Our vision has been for a transformational medical center that will serve the needs of our community for the next 100 years.”

Scheduled for completion in June 2019, the new 267-bed hospital will house all medical and surgical services, including cardiovascular, orthopedics, labor and delivery, and trauma. Combining campus services will help avoid confusion for patients and their families as well as eliminate duplication of work for staff members.

A key highlight of the project includes a new 74-bed Universal Care Unit. It is a patient-centered care model that provides private rooms for outpatients who need care for a few hours and do not require a full hospital stay, according to a statement. The new medical center will also feature private inpatient rooms, a new Emergency Department, advanced surgical and procedural areas, and a massive overhaul of the existing Mercy Campus.

Los Angeles-headquartered CRBE Healthcare will provide owner’s representative services for the new medical center. That includes Certificate of Need (CON) support, preconstruction, on-site project management, master budget and schedule development, project-delivery team selection assistance, contract negotiation, project cost and schedule management, and project-delivery team coordination, according to a statement.
