Marysville Hospital Investing in New Sports Medicine Facility

MARYSVILLE, Ohio — Construction is well underway on a new 35,000-square-foot satellite facility that will expand the Marysville’s Memorial Hospital system. The $7.5 million project will provide the growing hospital with space for several new and expanded departments and further position the hospital as a leader in sports medicine and physical therapy.

Upon completion, the new two-story facility will provide expanded urgent care space, as well as a modern and comprehensive sports medicine center. The Marysville Orthopedic and Sports Medicine practice, Memorial Hospital’s physical therapy center and an outpatient imaging center complete with MRI and CT capabilities will all be housed within the new facility.

The expansion was spurred by the development of the hospital’s Elevate Sports Medicine program and partnerships with local school athletic departments. As a result of these partnerships, patient visits related to sports medicine and physical therapy have increased by 54 percent over the past year. Last year was a record year for the hospital, which saw more than 16,000 urgent care visits.

Spence Fisher, the hospital’s vice president of Physician Relations & Business Development, said, “We decided to become fully engaged in sports medicine, as we wanted adolescents, teens and young adults to experience the sophistication and quality of care that is available through our team.” Fisher added that the new expansion will also address the needs of the hospital’s growing ambulatory services, noting that much of the care provided to patients has shifted to the outpatient setting over the years.

The new building will be located in the City Gate mixed-use complex developed by Connolly Construction. “This new building will allow us to continue to bring expanded services outside of the walls of the hospital, improving access for our community,” said Fisher.

Andrews Architects of Dublin was selected to design the expansion and Pizzuti Construction Services of Columbus has been contracted to develop the site. In a statement, Jim Miller, executive vice president of The Pizzuti Companies, said, “We are extremely pleased to assist Memorial Hospital of Union County in developing a well-located medical building that will provide integrated, convenient health care services to the Marysville community. When complete, this new facility will provide a patient-centered environment that is among the finest in Central Ohio.”

The past year has been one of great growth for the Memorial Hospital system. The hospital added an $11 million heart and surgical pavilion, operated jointly with Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, to its main Marysville campus, as well as a Plain City location earlier this year.

The new City Gate facility is scheduled for completion in fall 2014. When fully operational, it is expected to host 50,000 patient visits annually.
