$105 Million Orthopedic Hospital Project Moves Ahead

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — St. Johns Health System is hoping to move forward with plans to build a $105 million hospital on U.S. 65 in Springfield. The 48-bed facility would take two years to complete and will include inpatient, outpatient and surgical services. When completed, projections are that the facility will create 125 new jobs.

St. Johns hasn’t been able to move forward with a building permit application until they could guarantee the city that there would be adequate access to their site. That changed in recent years with the completion of the new interstate freeway, which is near to the proposed site for the facility.

Cora Scott, a St. Johns Health System spokesperson, said that demand from the aging baby-boomer population warranted construction of the regional facility.

The Springfield City Council is expected to vote on the development plan in November, and if it is approved, the project could break ground within a couple of months.
