COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus Regional Health in Columbus opened its new Centering Pregnancy Program on May 10. The program was made possible from an undisclosed grant from the March of Dimes organization. March of Dimes reported that the state of Georgia currently has a high premature birthrate of around 10.8 percent, and with the new program, pregnant women will be able to get the care and answers about their pregnancies that they need.
SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — Effingham Health System in Springfield announced that it will reorganize to become a nonprofit organization. A public hearing on the change will take place on July 5, and the reorganization is expected to happen by October.
LAURINBURG, N.C. — To celebrate Patient Experience Week (April 25 to 29), Scotland Health Care System located in Laurinburg launched a new program to help improve hospital stays for patients and their families, according to Laurinburg Exchange.
VAN NUYS, Calif. — The Henry L. Guenther Foundation, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit focused on improving social conditions and promoting human welfare to alleviate pain and suffering, awarded Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) a $250,000 grant for the hospital’s much needed $8.4 million emergency department renovation and expansion project, according to a statement.
RICHMOND, Va. — The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) honored VCU Health in Richmond with a 2016 Vista Award for the renovation and expansion of its emergency department, which was officially completed in August 2013.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The JE and LE Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., awarded the McPherson Healthcare Foundation a $750,000 challenge grant towards the first phase of construction for McPherson Hospital’s Caring for the Future Capital Campaign in McPherson, according to the McPherson Sentinel. The grant money being raised, however, is contingent on the balance needed for the total project.
TIFTON, Ga. — Tift Regional Health System in Tifton will be changing the way that it stores patient information as the hospital moves to put all financial and medical information into one system. The new platform will combine seven information systems to allow doctors and patients to stay healthy and on budget when providing care, according to local new source WTOC.
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The patients of Greenville Health System are now able to access care via computer, smartphone or tablet this month as the health system rolls out its new telecare system. The system not only allows patients access to their information, but it also allows patients with minor illnesses such as bladder infections, sore throats, ear pain or sinus infections to be examined through SmartExam, the hospital’s telemedicine portal.
BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Hendricks Regional Health announced the purchase of vacant farmland for the location of its new emergency room and outpatient center on the eastern side of Brownsburg. The facility, which is estimated to cost $48 million, will be a 100,000-square-foot retail health care center, according to a statement from Hendricks Regional Health.
WASHINGTON — Children’s National Medical Center will build its first-ever healing garden on a 7,200-square-foot rooftop space, allowing patients to enjoy the outdoors during their hospital stay.
