Kentucky Hospitals Band Together to Reduce Medical Device Infections
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thirty-three Kentucky hospitals are participating in an effort to improve patient safety and prevent infections, a collaborative headed by the Kentucky Hospital Association.
Medical devices can cause blood stream infections (BSIs) including central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs) and catheter-associated urinary tract infections, according to the association, a Louisville, Ky.-based non-profit group that includes all the state’s hospitals.
Kaiser Ontario, Calif. Hospital Opens Doors
ONTARIO, Calif. — The Kaiser Permanente Ontario Medical Center opened its doors in early November, bringing more jobs to the Inland Empire in California. The 386,000-square-foot hospital combines cutting-edge technology with a sustainable, “peaceful, patient-centered” atmosphere.
Yale Cancer Hospital Earns LEED
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven earned LEED certification in recognition of its sustainable design and construction strategies.
The hospital spans 516,000 square feet and features 14 floors, 168 private patient rooms, 12 operating rooms, radiation therapy and several integrated imaging technologies.
Family-Oriented Newborn Intensive Care Unit Opens Doors
MILWAUKEE — Columbia St. Mary’s recently opened its new $3.5 million newborn intensive care unit, designed to set a new standard of care for premature and ill infants in southeastern Wisconsin.
$19 Million Oklahoma Rehab Facility Planned
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Sanders Trust, a healthcare real estate investment company in Vestavia Hills, Ala., will develop a $19 million 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility in Oklahoma City, scheduled for completion in late 2012.
