MOOSIC, Pa.—Warfel Construction Company officials joined representatives from Geisinger and Acadia Health at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast, located in Moosic.

This 72,910-square-foot medical facility, which is a joint venture partnership between Acadia Healthcare and Geisinger, has 96 new patient beds divided among four units. Warfel broke ground in September 2021, and the official ribbon cutting was held on July 17, 2023. Warfel led the construction of the new facility, and partnered with Stengel Hill Architecture, Crunk Engineering, Skyhook Structural Engineering, P.C., and CMTA on this facility’s design and construction.

“We enjoyed working with Acadia and Geisinger on every phase of this project,” said Rusty Hoffman, Warfel’s Project Executive. “This facility will provide a great service to the surrounding community, and we are honored that we were selected to play a role in that.”

This new state-of-the-art Behavioral Health Center will employ approximately 200 healthcare professionals. The facility is in partnership with Acadia Healthcare, a company that specializes in behavioral healthcare services.

Warfel, Geisinger, and Acadia wanted to provide staff the best to work with and ensure patients feel comfortable seeking that treatment.

The demand and need for behavioral health services has been increasing. This health center is expected to reduce the number of patients going to emergency rooms and help relieve some of that burden in the surrounding community.

“This facility was created with the comfort and convenience of the patients and staff in mind. It features outdoor courtyards, and provides everyone with the ability to move freely throughout the facility,” Hoffman added.

The mental and behavioral health facility in Moosic will start taking patients on August 1.
