PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — A flag-raising ceremony was held on Sept. 10 at the Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center (BMHMC) in Patchogue. The ceremony, which included raising the flag that originally flew over the United States Capital building, marks the completion of the first phase of the new Knapp Cardiac Care Center. Exterior construction on the new facility is currently on schedule and interior work will begin this fall. The hospital aims for full completion by fall 2016.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — CoxHealth’s Cox Medical Center South in Springfield recently completed a new West Tower addition, which houses the new Dee Ann White Women’s and Children’s hospital and the Jared Neuroscience Center.
APPLETON, Wis. — St. Elizabeth’s Hospital recently installed a green rooftop garden on top of the new Fremont Tower. Installation of the garden began in mid-July. The 235,000-square-foot, five-story tower will be an inpatient facility, which also has a new radiology unit and a restaurant-style cafeteria named The Market. The new, modern facility will replace a 90-year-old hospital wing and will provide a more comfortable place for patients to recover.
DALLAS — On Aug. 20, the Parkland Health and Hospital System opened the doors of a new $1.3 billion facility that replaces the old emergency room, which was built in 1954 and beginning to fall apart. The new facility is double the size of its predecessor and was designed to accommodate the growing population in the Dallas/Fort Worth region.

The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) has elected Celeste M. Johnson, DNP, APRN, PMH CNS, director of nursing, psychiatric services at Parkland Health & Hospital System, to the 2016 APNA Board of Directors. Johnson will serve as member-at-large, assuming the role at the organization’s 29th Annual Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., in October.
