SALT LAKE CITY— A new 7,000-square-foot disaster preparedness center in Salt Lake City, Utah, is now officially open, offering certain medical personnel disaster response training. The new Intermountain Center for Disaster Preparedness will be located inside the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.
BALTIMORE — The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore recently unveiled its new emergency departments for both adult and pediatric care on April 29. The new facilities replace the previous outdated pediatric and adult emergency centers and open their doors to what officials call modern and updated emergency departments.
On March 28, 2012, the Department of Justice filed a settlement under the Americans with Disabilities Act with Trinity Health Systems to ensure that the Trinity Regional Medical Center provides effective communication to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing — including a settlement of $198,000 to the aggrieved individuals and a $20,000 civil penalty.
The complaint, filed in 2009, alleged that alleging that the Medical Center had inadequate mechanisms in place to ensure good communication between hospital personnel and deaf patients.
