ST. LOUIS — McCarthy Building Cos. was awarded a new $7.5 million contract to renovate one level of the existing two-story Inpatient Rehabilitation Center for Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Preliminary phasing work on the 32,069-square-foot facility began this month, while the main renovation work will start in January. The project is slated for completion in October 2012.

The building company also recently completed $250 million in renovations and additions as project manager for five Alegent Health hospitals in the Omaha area as part of Alegent’s Generation Patient Program, which began in May 2007 and completed in October. The program included renovations at Immanuel Medical Center, Bergan Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, Midlands Hospital and Lakeside Hospital.

The medical center now features all private patient rooms, enhanced comprehensive Cancer Center services and an expanded Ambulatory Diagnostic Center.

Tate Jacobitz, McCarthy’s project director, said he is pleased to be continuing the relationship with Alegent Health with this additional work at Immanuel Medical Center.

“The award of a new project for this ongoing client is a confirmation of the quality of our work and our relationship with the great team at Immanuel Medical Center and Alegent Health,” Jacobitz said.

McCarthy will serve as both construction manager and general contractor for the renovation project, which will include the addition of 36 private rehabilitation rooms, a gym, dining and living space and support spaces.

The company will work with Altus Architectural Studio and Farris Engineering — both Omaha-based firms — on the renovation of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center.

Alegent Health serves Nebraska and southwestern Iowa with nine acute care hospitals, more than 100 service sites and about 1,300 staff physicians.
