Banner Health Opens $150 Million Hospital Near Phoenix

PHOENIX —The $150 million Banner Ironwood Medical Center will open soon in San Tan Valley, Ariz., about 40 miles from downtown Phoenix. The 227,000-square-foot, five-story hospital will open with 36 beds and will add more as the demand increases.

The new construction can accommodate 84-beds but the 80-acre site has room for a hospital with more than 500-beds and supporting health services.

Construction on the long-planned facility had been put off due to a slowdown in the housing market in Queen Creek, San Tan Valley and northern Pinal County. With improving economic conditions, construction began earlier this year.

An early emphasis on the hospital will be obstetrics due to the average age of the 130,000 people that live in the communities being in the early 30s. The hospital will also include an emergency room, four surgical suites and medical-imaging services. Patients will be served their meals via a room-service program that permits menu-selections based on individual preferences.

Additionally, physicians will use an estimated 2,250 square feet of medical office space.  Medical specialties will include cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, general surgery, neurology, orthopedics and obstetrics-gynecology.
