Vanderbilt University Announces Children’s Hospital Expansion Plans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Officials at Vanderbilt University’s Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital have announced that they will add a four-story expansion to the current facility. The approximately 160,000-square-foot expansion will bring inpatient capacity to more than 300 and space to nearly 1 million square feet. The new tower will be built on top of the southeast façade.

Academic Medical Center Receives New MRI Suite

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A new advanced MRI Suite is now complete at the 603-bed Stony Brook University Hospital. The $6.3 million project included the installation of a Siemens Magnetom Skyra 3T MRI scanner and a Siemens Magnetom Aera Dot MRI scanner; construction of two 400-square-foor MRI rooms; a centrally located, 200-square-foot control room; a 360-square-foot contract prep waiting area with three bed bays; and a 150-square-foot UPS room.

Florida Hospital Tampa Continues Expansion

TAMPA, Fla. — Florida Hospital Tampa is set to welcome two expansions in 2014. The hospital opened their new Women’s Health Pavilion last week and announced that a new emergency department will open this fall.

The Women’s Health Pavilion, which officially opened Jan. 13, includes a dedicated women’s entrance, new lobby, pre-admission testing rooms, ultrasound suites, lactation consultation room, pediatric waiting area, Internet café, gift shop, outdoor garden and chapel.

CINCINNATI — The new 250-bed Mercy Health West Hospital is in full swing. Locally headquartered Champlin Architecture, which served as the architect of record, and Los Angeles-headquartered AECOM designed the 625,000-square-foot facility that features a health center, cancer center, birthing unit and orthopedics program. Family-centered care rooms feature sleeper sofas, recliners, laptop tables and separate lighting fixtures for visitors.

Designers set out to create a health care facility that combined beauty, culture and function.
