Translucent Roofing System
Centerpoint’s new translucent roofing system is formed from GE’s Lexan Thermoclear multi-wall polycarbonate) sheet, a virtually unbreakable material that provides full-spectrum, natural light and improved energy efficiency. The roofing structure is designed to allow penetration of natural, filtered daylight into living areas without the energy loss and higher heating and cooling costs of glass roofing inserts. The company says the pre-assembled system can withstand wind loads of up to 140 mph; has superior UV resistance and impact strength, and exceptional sound-dampening qualities. The material’s ability to filter and diffuse natural daylight entering rooms also eliminates shadows and glare, and is said to raise energy efficiency by a factor of five compared to glass.
