EYP, WHR Merge to Expand Health Care Services

ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany-based EYP and Houston-based WHR Architects merged to grow the firms’ scope of services in the health care market.

EYP is a leader in education, government and sustainable design, and WHR is the design firm of choice for Houston’s Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. Both EYP and WHR have experienced a surge in growth over the past year. In 2013, EYP grew by 20 percent and opened six new offices, and WHR grew by 70 percent. The merger will bring together 530 professionals from both firms.

First Community College Hospital Opens in Maryland

GERMANTOWN, Md. — Holy Cross Germantown Hospital recently opened on the Montgomery College campus in Germantown.

The $200 million facility welcomed patients on Oct. 1 as the first hospital to be built in the county in more than 35 years. The hospital is also the first in the country to be built on a community college campus and is the core of Montgomery College’s Hercules Pinkney Life Sciences Park.

ATLANTA — Construction industry information provider Reed Construction Data is going back to its roots by changing its name to CMD — a nod to the company’s original name, Construction Market Data. On Oct. 1, the company updated its logo and announced on its website that it was changing its identity.

Study Reports Critical Challenges Hospitals Faced During Sandy

WASHINGTON — When Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast two years ago, hospitals were not ready to handle the problems that came with such a disaster and many were cited months earlier for the same problems they dealt with during the storm.
The Department of Health and Human Service’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) examined emergency preparedness and response at 172 hospitals in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey and released the study’s findings on Sept. 16.

WASHINGTON — The Advisory Board Company (ABCO) has chosen three hospitals and one health system to receive 2014 Revenue Cycle Solutions Awards, which recognize institutions’ efforts to improve financial performance.

The four institutions are among more than 700 hospitals nationwide that are members of ABCO’s Revenue Cycle Solutions programs, which help hospitals evaluate and determine ways to improve financial status.
