$665 Million VA Hospital Goes to Bid
New Green Building Code Introduced
WASHINGTON – The nation’s leading organizations in building-code development and energy and lighting engineering announced the launch of the first nationwide standard set of green building codes, the International Green Construction Code Public Version 1.0.
The green building code system, which conforms to existing International Code Council codes, was designed to give professionals in the construction industry a standard method of developing high-performance green commercial buildings.

Read More Survey Indicates Wash. Green Jobs Are on the Rise
OLYMPIA, Wash. – A survey produced by the state’s Employment Security Department identified 99,319 green jobs in Washington in 2009, about 3.3 percent of the state’s work force.
The survey, released in March, suggests green jobs grew by 33 percent, or 15,100 positions, for companies that were surveyed in 2008 and again in 2009.
“If Washington can see this kind of shift to green jobs during a recession, just think what will happen as our economy recovers,” says Gov. Chris Gregoire.

Calif. Introduces Mandatory Green Building Code
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California is the first state to introduce mandatory green building standards after a new policy was created to achieve a statewide goal of 33 percent renewable energy use by 2020 and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and water use.
Ellerbe Named Architect for $150 Million Project
CINCINNATI — International architectural firm Ellerbe Becket was named lead design architect for a new $150 million hospital planned for a 60-acre parcel on Cincinnati’s west side.
The firm will partner with Champlin Architecture, based in Cincinnati, to design the new hospital for Mercy Health Partners. The hospital will house comprehensive healthcare services, including heart and cancer, according to Ellerbe.

WARRENVILLE, Ill. — Construction has passed the halfway point on the $35 million Central DuPage Hospital outpatient cancer treatment and imaging center in Warrenville.
The center is located five miles south of the hospital’s main campus in Winfield, where a 276,000-square-foot bed pavilion is also being constructed.
