PALO ALTO, Calif. — The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) awarded a $543 million contract to HP Enterprise Services, a division of Palo Alto-based Hewlett-Packard, for its Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Real-Time Location System (RTLS). The contract will serve to launch a management system that will help automate and improve upon operations and veteran health care services.
MERRILLVILLE, Ind. — The former Osco Drugstore at 61st and Broadway in Merrillville, will soon transform into the newest Community HealthNet medical center, which will comprise the northern half of the 16,000-square-foot building.

Newly hired project manager for Conshohocken, Penn.-based Shoemaker Construction Co., Matt Madeira will oversee and manage all phases of a construction project from preconstruction to completion, including the development of a project schedule, construction plan and project phasing. WILMINGTON, Del. — A talking avatar named Val, an acronym for Veteran Affairs locator, now greets veterans and their family members at the Wilmington VA Medical Center via a LogicJunction digital wayfinding system that was launched in mid-December.
“The point of Val is to provide a personal touch to the interactive touchscreen system,” said Mike Drozda, chief operating officer for LogicJunction, in a statement.
ATLANTA — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based in Atlanta, launched the One and Only Campaign in April 2012, and discussed it in more depth on Nov. 13 during the organization’s monthly Public Health Grand Rounds webcast.
The campaign, led by the CDC and the Safe Injection Practices Coalition (SIPC) is meant to raise awareness for patients and health care providers about safe injection practices.
TORRANCE, Calif. — The new $450 million Torrance Memorial Medical Center Replacement Tower is currently being constructed at the existing Torrance Memorial Medical Center site, and it will replace the hospital’s original one, built in 1971.
PHILADELPHIA — In an effort to enhance pediatric care in one of Philadelphia’s poorest urban areas, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children will undergo a $110 million expansion, scheduled to begin this February.
