Nemschoff recently unveiled its Steps line, a transitional seating solution to accommodate waiting area designs. In collaboration with Brian Kane of Kane Design Studio, Nemschoff developed the unit’s flexible design to allow a sense of peace to patients and their visitors, according to the company.


Shepley Bulfinch recently hired health care planning and design leader Mario Vieira as a principal at the firm. With 25 years of experience as a healthcare architect, Vieira has worked with community hospital clients throughout the East Coast. His assignments included a master plan and award-winning patient care tower for Cape Cod Hospital, inpatient and ambulatory projects for Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, and the Southcoast Hospitals Group.
Gary Wilkinson, who joined KLMK in 2004, was named principal consultant for the company. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Wilkinson manages projects at various facilities, including the Slidell Memorial Hospital, Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Southeast Alabama Medical Center and West Georgia Health System. In addition, he is leading the Transition Planning and Move Management Team for the Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children at Children’s of Alabama.
HOUSTON — Construction is under way on a new $15 million nursing school facility at Texas Tech University’s Health Sciences Center in Abilene, Texas, that could address the state’s increasing shortage of nurses.
Robert A. Frank has been appointed to chief financial officer of the Weirton Medical Center. Frank, a health care industry veteran who has held various executive operational and financial management positions, is responsible for all finances including accounting, revenue cycle and budgeting.
WHR Architects recently promoted Joel Colwell, AIA, to principal. Colwell joined the firm in 2004 and spent the previous ten years on the client side as a facilities and project manager for a hospital in Louisiana.
