Coffman Bill Takes Aim at VA
WASHINGTON — Following the dismissal of the top Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) official in charge of construction, Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo., introduced legislation on March 26 that would help get the Aurora, Colo., VA hospital built while holding the VA accountable for its failures.
Covenant Health Launches Construction Efforts in Lubbock
LUBBOCK, Texas — Covenant Health, based in Knoxville, Tenn., is investing $450 million toward construction and renovation efforts for its hospital system in Lubbock.
Harrison Selects Balfour Beatty for Hospital Expansion
BREMERTON, Wash. — Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton named Balfour Beatty Construction, based in London, to provide preconstruction and construction services for an expansion to its acute-care hospital in Silverdale, Wash. Harrison made the announcement on March 25. Last fall, Harrison announced NBBJ of Seattle as the project’s architect.
LifeBridge Health Acquires Carroll Hospital Center
BALTIMORE — LifeBridge Health, a health organization based in Baltimore, has acquired Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md. The deal will help with future hospital construction and renovation projects as well as the development and expansion of medical services.
Robert Goodwin
Perkins+Will’s New York office recently announced the elevation of Robert Goodwin into the College of Fellows, the AIA’s highest honor for excellence. Goodwin has designed a number of Perkins+Will’s award-winning projects, including the new Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University Medical Center, among others. Goodwin, the architectural design director for Perkins+Will’s New York office, has practiced architecture for more than 20 years.
Operating Room RFID Reader
Haldor Advanced Technologies announced an extension of its ORLocate product portfolio with the launch of the HoveRead, a handheld RFID reader designed to work with and extend the ORLocate workstation’s offering. In the operating room, the HoveRead allows the scrub and circulating nurse to easily count all the instruments placed on a Mayo Tray, the back table or within a metal container. Because of that, it provides vital assistance during intraoperative counting executed several times along the procedure.
