Design for Patients, by Patients
Health care designers and planners have a special task: creating spaces that soften the hospital treatment process and promote a healing environment for patients. Facilitating healing through design requires careful planning and research.

NEW YORK — After six years of research and design development, New York-based NXT Health, a nonprofit organization dedicated to collaborative design innovation to improve the delivery of care, debuted Patient Room 2020 at the DuPont Corian Design Studio in New York.
ATLANTA — Last November, Birmingham, Ala.-headquartered Brasfield & Gorrie completed the new metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) radiation therapy room at the Aflac Cancer Center of Children’s Heathcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
Array Architects recently hired Robert Mencarini, AIA, as principal and practice area leader for design technologies in its New York office. With extensive expertise in knowledge management and data mining, Mencarini will leverage his experience as an architect and technology leader to analyze facility data and provide insight regarding hospital operations and the patient care delivery process.
BSA LifeStructures, an architecture and engineering firm specializing in healing, learning and discovery market segments, hired Martha Strong as a senior interior designer in its Chicago office. Strong oversaw her own interiors practice for more than 10 years and has served other interior design firms in a similar leadership role.
