Mount Vernon Project Begins
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — A $30 million renovation project will soon be under way to bring the 119-year old Mount Vernon Hospital up to the 21st century, and assure its long-term future and stability.
Restoration of the 358,000-square-foot facility, which has expanded in stages since 1891, will include substantial reconstruction. The hospital, which is one of the most significant structures in the city and a major fixture downtown, has been struggling financially for more than 25 years.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — The design team of McCarthy and Taylor are working in partnership with St Joseph Health Systems and Latino Health Access to donate services for a new half-acre community center and park in one of the poorest area in California.
The future 2,500-square-foot Latino Health Access Community Center will cost around $4 million to build and operate and will include both recreational and educational space for free or low-cost health and educational programming provided by LHA and collaborating partners.

BALTIMORE — When work is finally completed on the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center at John Hopkins Children’s Hospital in Baltimore, the result will be a blend of technological advances and a family-friendly environment aimed at putting ailing children — and their parents — at ease.
The 12-story children’s tower is part of the $994 million, 1.6 million-square foot adult critical care and cardiovascular tower expansion scheduled to open 2012.

Construction Begins on $1.27 Billion Dallas Hospital
DALLAS — A groundbreaking ceremony took place for the new Parkland Memorial Hospital, which will be situated across the street from its current location on Harry Hines and Medical District Drive.
The 2.5-million square foot replacement hospital campus, slated for completion in 2014, will feature a 17-story main hospital building with 862 patient rooms for adults and a 96-neonatal intensive-care unit, and has a price tag of $1.27 billion.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Cleveland Clinic, a healthcare organization once cited by President Obama as a model of excellence, has been hired by Kaleida Health to consult on a new hospital’s heart-care program, including its policies, procedures, personnel, outcome and facilities. The consulting agreement was reached as construction continues in downtown Buffalo on a new 10-story, $291 million Kaleida vascular care and medical research facility.
The vascular center is joint venture between Kaleida Health and the University at Buffalo.

NEW YORK — Two major architectural and design firms, Perkins Eastman and Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects, are merging their practices and consolidating their offices in New York City; Washington, D.C.; and China.
Both companies report that no layoffs will take place for Perkins’ 500 employees worldwide and EE&K’s approximately 85 members.
