CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — Nearly 700 people bundled up Jan. 31 to tour Reid Health’s new Connersville campus—an early public look at a $100 million replacement facility the system expects to begin using this spring.
Skanska USA Building Inc. and construction partner Shook Construction joined Reid Health leaders for a private opening ceremony followed by public tours, marking what the project team described as Fayette County’s first new healthcare facility in decades.
Reid Health President and CEO Ben Wells said the opening reflects a long-term commitment to keeping services local. “Nearly six years ago, we made a promise to this community: That it would have high-quality, sustainable healthcare in Fayette County for many years to come,” according to a press release from Reid Health. He added that the organization is “excited to unveil this new campus and begin seeing patients here soon.”
The two-story, 106,715-square-foot facility at 2500 Park Road is designed to consolidate services that previously operated across an older, heavily renovated site at 1941 Virginia Ave., which Reid Health described as difficult to adapt for modern care delivery. The new campus brings together an emergency department, primary care and 12 specialty practices—two of which will be new to Connersville—alongside outpatient radiology and lab services and infusion therapy.
Project leaders emphasized transport capability as a key feature. The campus includes an onsite helipad described as Fayette County’s first in nearly 30 years, intended to support timely transfers when needed.
Skanska Account Manager Dan Balow said the team prioritized resilience and efficiency while maintaining a patient-centered environment. “This opening reflects years of collaboration, planning, and a shared commitment to improving access to high-quality care,” according to a press release from Skanska USA. Balow said Skanska and Shook focused on solutions that “promote resilience, efficiency, and an atmosphere of healing.”
Shook Construction Senior Project Manager Bryan Horman (spelled “Homan” in the Reid Health release) also pointed to project teamwork. “Reid Health’s commitment to the Connersville community is truly remarkable and leading the construction of this healing environment has been an honor for our team,” according to a press release from Reid Health. He added, “We’re proud to help deliver a facility that will serve generations to come.”
With the grand opening complete, Reid Health said the building is transitioning through operational readiness activities ahead of the start of patient care this spring.
