Todd Buchanan Joins Seattle Office of Perkins&Will

Todd Buchanan

Global architecture and design firm Perkins&Will recently announced the hiring of Todd Buchanan as managing director of the firm’s Seattle studio. Buchanan has strong ties to the Pacific Northwest region and brings more than 25 years of experience managing civic, healthcare, and aviation projects to the role. He served as principal-in-charge for the Kaiser Permanente Everett Ambulatory Surgery and Specialty Center Expansion in Seattle, and has led several high-profile capital projects, including the $1 billion, 350-bed Western State Hospital behavioral health campus in Lakewood, Wash., which is currently under construction and is aiming for LEED Gold and Net Zero certification.

“I’ve long admired Perkins&Will and the people who have contributed to the firm’s success, so joining forces feels like a natural fit,” said Buchanan in a statement. “Perkins&Will’s work is consistently meaningful and impactful, delivering projects that serve communities and earn the trust of clients. We share common values and a belief in design as a force for good.”

One of Buchanan’s goals is to advance the studio’s track record of designing and delivering excellence in healthcare, commercial real estate, higher education, life sciences, and workplace. He succeeds Kay Kornovich, who led the studio for 20 years and will continue to serve on the firm’s Board of Directors.

“Todd is well-known across the region for being strategic and trustworthy, and for fostering collaborative environments where clients and colleagues feel heard and supported,” said Lindsey Peckinpaugh, President of Perkins&Will. “He’s a great fit for our culture, and we’re excited to welcome him to the firm.”
