CARTERVILLE, lll. — McCarthy Building Companies, based in St. Louis, has completed the new $15.3 million Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) Cancer Institute in Carterville.
Built to improve community access to the latest in cancer care and treatment, SIH held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new facility on February 18 and is now seeing its first patients.
SmithGroupJJR, based in Detroit, named Christopher Arnold, AIA, LEED green associate, to lead the firm’s health care studio in Los Angeles. Arnold joins the Los Angeles office from the firm’s Washington, D.C., location, where he served as senior project manager and project architect for many of the firm’s award-winning health projects. Arnold will focus on continuing SmithGroupJJR’s Los Angeles office growth throughout Southern California.
Conquer Mobile announced the release and general availability of PeriopSim, a new medical simulation training iPad application for operating room nurses and surgical techs who need to learn surgical instruments and procedures. PeriopSim enables surgical staff to practice safely before surgery. Using video of real surgeries and voice prompts, users are guided through a surgery and prompted to use the correct tool at every step. Gamification techniques such as scoring and timed challenges motivate learners to practice and hone their skills.
