SAN FRANCISCO — Apple’s debut of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch on Sept. 9 marks a new era in health care diagnostics. Apple’s updated operating system will allow the devices to integrate with electronic health records.
FARMINGTON, Conn. — The last steel beam for UConn Health’s new hospital tower on its Farmington campus was set in place on Sept. 8 during a topping off ceremony led by Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy.
WASHINGTON — The Advisory Board Company (ABCO) has chosen three hospitals and one health system to receive 2014 Revenue Cycle Solutions Awards, which recognize institutions’ efforts to improve financial performance.
The four institutions are among more than 700 hospitals nationwide that are members of ABCO’s Revenue Cycle Solutions programs, which help hospitals evaluate and determine ways to improve financial status.
CHICAGO — Several major U.S. health systems have committed to purchasing furniture made without toxic, flame-retardant chemicals, building sector-wide momentum to eliminate what these systems now consider an unnecessary health threat.
James Kendrick, AIA, has joined FKP Architects as vice president and senior project manager for the health care sector. Kendrick is responsible for project leadership, strategic client relationship development and overseeing adherence to health care design best practices. His 27-year career has focused on health facility planning, design and operations. Kendrick will step into the project manager role for Parkland Hospital in Dallas, which is currently in design.
Akro-Mils has introduced a universal hanging bin. The universal hanging bin’s design allows it to adapt to users’ changing storage needs. The bin features a full-rim hanging cleat design that allows it to be hung from a louvered panel by any of its four sides and from rails by its two sides. Additionally, the bins are sized to fit evenly across standard-size wire and steel shelving units, providing added utility for optimizing storage spaces.
Dewberry has hired Megan Sterl as a senior project manager for the newly formed energy solutions group at the firm’s Denver office. There, she will be responsible for overseeing the execution of large retro-commissioning projects across the country. Sterl has more than seven years of experience in energy solutions services, including energy audits and mechanical system design projects, concentrating on existing building retro-commissioning.
