AL!VE Facility Takes Cue from Experience Retail

CHARLOTTE, Mich. — Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital thinks outside the box with its new AL!VE facility in Charlotte, Mich.

The 68,000-square-foot, 14-acre health and wellness center held open houses in October and opens to patients in mid-November. The $18.5 million project houses the hospital’s physical therapy unit, as well as lifestyle and fitness components for community use.

UDI Conference Scheduled

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A conference to prepare the healthcare industry for the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) unique device identifier (UDI) regulation is scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec. 1, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Mass.

The UDI rule will require many organizations to implement new or improved systems and processes to efficiently mark or tag equipment, scan device information at various points in its lifecycle, and transmit that data to the UDI database and other software systems.

School of Medicine Project Underway at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Plans for a new Western Michigan University (WMU) School of Medicine move forward with site selection expected later this year and the first students expected to enroll in fall 2014.

The project is a partnership between the WMU and Kalamazoo’s two teaching hospitals, Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare. Planning for the project has been underway for three years with fundraising, accreditation work and curriculum development for the medical school in progress.

LAFAYETTE, La. — The first phase of the 45-acre Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center campus opened in June with a $211 million hospital and medical office building.

The project features a main acute care hospital, a four-story medical office building and nearby complexes that house more that 60 physicians who have relocated practices in the area.
