BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey cut the ribbon recently to officially open the new Swaid Vestavia Medical Center & Surgical Institute of Alabama, located at 1021 Old Montgomery Highway in the Vestavia Hills area of the Yellowhammer State’s largest city.

According to CBS42, the $21 million medical facility was overseen by Dr. Swaid N. Swaid himself. Dr. Swaid is a prominent neurosurgeon who received his medical training at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. His eponymous facility will offer a diagnostic center, an ambulatory surgery center and office space for a dozen physicians as well within its 40,000 square feet of medical use space.

“Our goal is to provide our patients healthcare that is advanced, convenient and cost effective. I believe that, along with our partners, we will meet this goal,” Swaid said at the dedication ceremony in Birmingham.

Groundbreaking for the project took place in December 2018, according to CBS42. Evan Terry Associates of Birmingham served as the project architect. The hometown firm worked in conjunction with general contractor Brasfield & Gorrie, which also has its corporate headquarters in Birmingham, to realize the project’s completion.

“Access to best-in-class healthcare is a vital component of a strong community,” Brasfield & Gorrie Vice President and Division Manager Ed Hauser said at the unveiling of the Swaid Vestavia Medical Center & Surgical Institute of Alabama. “We are pleased to have been a part of Dr. Swaid’s team to deliver a center that will increase the convenience of such care for many in our hometown and throughout the southeast.”

Brasfield & Gorrie was founded in 1964, and remains one of the largest privately held construction firms in the country. The construction company has 12 offices employing approximately 3,000 people. Brasfield & Gorrie reported revenues for 2019 at $3.8 billion, and the company was ranked by Engineering News-Record as 25th in its list of the nation’s “Top 400 Contractors” for 2019.
